Mani Sarathy

Expert Partner

Dr. Mani Sarathy is a chemical engineer and energy systems expert whose career has focused on advancing technologies that reduce the environmental impact of fuel production and energy generation. With over two decades of academic, industrial, and policy experience, his current work is increasingly aligned with solving decarbonization challenges in the maritime sector—a critical yet under-addressed domain in the global energy transition.

Dr. Sarathy is Professor and Chair of Chemical Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he also leads the Clean Energy Research Platform. He holds visiting appointments in Japan and collaborates extensively with international institutions. His expertise spans hydrogen production, e-fuels, emissions modeling, and chemical kinetic mechanisms, with recent work evaluating life cycle emissions of maritime fuels and coastal energy systems.

From 2020–2022, he served as Senior Manager for Hydrogen and Green Fuels at ENOWA (NEOM), contributing to one of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects. He also advises governments and private sector consortia on the techno-economic evaluation of energy infrastructure, with a focus on feasibility, scalability, and policy alignment.

Within MarineFifty, Dr. Sarathy contributes deep scientific and engineering insight to investment evaluation and R&D strategy. He works closely with startups, scale-ups, and institutional partners developing sustainable marine propulsion, carbon-negative fuel systems, and circular economy solutions for coastal regions.
